Booth Industries, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of performance certified steel doors and modular wall systems, has received an order from Costain for the first phase of a contract to supply and install fire rated hinged and sliding security and pressure resistant doors for large infrastructure project; the London Power Tunnels.
Costing £1billion, the National Grid tunnel project started in 2011 and is scheduled for completion in 2018. The tunnel runs from east to west and north to south London. The finished project will consist of 13 shafts along the route, with head houses, for which Booth tendered for the supply and installation of security doors at each location.
The bulk of the scope of supply is for Booth’s new ‘Belmont’ architectural grade, level 3 hinged security door; the result of a product development programme completed in February of this year. Orders for the remaining stages are expected over the next few months.
Once completed, the tunnels will enable the Capital to be completely rewired, to ensure that future energy demands can be met.
